Inspiration for watercolor below. photographed at Skylands Botanical Garden 8/09
Well for my first watercolor in a while, I am really thrilled with how this one came out. Thanks to Krista at What is Krista Painting Now? for the great paintings that were the inspiration to get the brushes out and start working on my watercolors again on weekends that I don't head into the woods with my camera.
Don't worry the camera won't get rusty. I just needed to get some balance between the arts I pursue again. I have done nothing but photography for the last 6 months.
Keep Makin' Art!

Carl, this is excellent, I love the gradation in the background and your color is right on! I think these are one of my favorite flowers, I love the way the petals grow. I am glad that I inspired you to paint this :)
HI Krista - I agree the color is a homerun and I can see doing this as a bigger painting. It was great to feel good about a watercolor after being so focused on my photography for the last six months. Next up a chickadee I shot a while ago for fun.
When I do the cone flower I'll be a little more controlled with my shapes, but all in all for a 45 minute sketch I am happy with the results of this one.
Thanks again,
Carl
Ah, it's good to be home... on line among my bloggers. Wonderful sketch. The vibrancy and, as Krista already pointed out, the gradation. On to later posts...
