We got clobbered with rain here in NY on Sunday, but before the rain I was able to catch these butterflies in my yard and the park across the street from my house. Perfect way to spend Sunday Morning.
These are beautiful. My sister and I once were driving through the Endless Mountains in PA, up past Snow Shoe, and suddenly we stopped the car. We were in the middle of a monarch migration. They lined both sides of the road, and the road had taken us so we were up in the midst of the mountains. We looked across at other peaks, and five mountains stripped by fire. A fire that had reached almost to our road. On that side, the monarchs were the only colors against ashen browns and grays.
Your pictures reminded me of that miraculous day. We were not photographers, so we could not capture the scene evocatively. What you would have done with such a scene!

Dave - Thank you. With how quickly these creatures move around you need to take quick bursts of shots and then in the editing find the composition that works.
The monarch I was fostering is getting ready to break out of its chrysalis... it's starting to get translucent. That said, the other night I found ANOTHER monarch caterpillar wandering the milkweed plant. He came in as an egg, hatched, and kept hidden until he was a good size. So, now I'm fostering a 2nd one!
