Reeve's Meadow - a walk in the snow.

There was a light snow yesterday afternoon.  Wendy saw the falling snow and said "I thought you would be out taking pictures this afternoon.  My boots and coat were on in a flash.  She asked where I would be heading.  I said… Not sure, Maybe Harriman.  OK, but shoot something new.  You already have plant of shots of streams….  It's true,  I am a junkie for rocks and water.  Always have been, but armed with these instructions I wandered the woods and the area around Reeve's Meadow.  It was a great choice and I thank Wendy for nudge in the right direction.  I learned a long time ago to trust her opinions and suggestions.  In fact she always helps me with the final selections of what goes into my shows.  The light snow clinging to and giving definition to the branches and the red and yellow grasses made for terrific compositions.  The woods were peaceful and I enjoyed them as much as any of my favorite streams.

Blogging has been a real effort of late.  It is different somehow since Dave King from the Pics and Poems blog passed away.  He commented on nearly all of my over 900 posts.  I always looked forward to the critique, commentary or just a friendly word from my friend from England.  I intended to keep going with the blog this year.  there are great things in store for me and my photography.  This is a great way to share my current work news.  I will have to start making the rounds again and visiting other blogs.

Dover Stone Church - in the snow

Jan 5th and I have three shoots and posts under my belt.  2014 is shaping up to be a banner year.  This morning's photos are from a hike at Dover Stone Church Falls.  I knew it was going to be cold, but it was 1* when we left the car.  Yikes!  Totally worth it though.  Great golden sunlight and cool blue snow made for awesome images.

What could be better than a little train station in the woods ask.  The same station at night with snow on the ground.  Jackpot!

New Year's Day Walk at Minisceongo Creek

I took a walk on New Year's Day to one of my favorite streams (Minisceongo Creek) and was rewarded with great Ice formations on the rocks and nice running water.  It made for some beautiful images.  Some are B&W while others are highly desaturated leaving just a bit of color.  I am hoping to photograph some of my favorite waterfalls this Sunday as well.  2014 is off to a good start.

My 2013 Top Ten Photos

After a week of reviewing images here are what I think are my best photos from 2013.  It is a great exercise to see how far you have come as an artist and where you would like to go next.  A few years ago this list had many shots of rocks and waterfalls and lighthouses.  All great shots, but I am pleased that I have been focusing my artistic eye on other subjects and will continue that trend in the coming year.  I wish you all peace, joy and success in 2014.

Top Ten List 2013 in Progress

Wenderina and I are reviewing my images from 2013 and have narrowed them way down.  Top Ten list will be posted on New Year's Day.  I am struck by two things.  I took more photos than I initially thought this year and it was difficult to narrow down to one top ten list.  This is an activity I encourage every photographer to put themselves through.  It helps you see what you want to work on in the year to come.

To everyone who has continued to read my posts and comment even though though I slowed down posting in the second half of the year.  Thank You!  Your words encourage me to keep going and make leaps of faith with my camera in hand.

End of Year project

I am home from our family Christmas in Florida.  I'll be reviewing the images I have taken this year and putting up a post of my favorite 10 images from 2013.  This is something I do each year to take stock in what I have done and what I would like to get done next year to further my art.  It is a great and challenging project.  Big things are inshore for Artistic Balance in 2014.  I will share more with you when I can.  Look for the top 10 post to go up by New Years Eve.  Let me know which ones you like.

Exploring Other Art!

So..... I am not gone.  I have not had a lot of photo ops lately.  Work has been crazy and I have not had much chance to get out there.  On the other hand. I have been diving into learning the mandolin.  I took it up about a year ago.  I am starting to make some progress.  I am having fun working on Chistmas songs for the holidays.  The family will be together and my brother will have his uke and I'll have my mandolin. Should be great fun.

I'll be posting my favorite photos from this year over the next couple weeks.

Hoboken Terminal Waiting Room

Sorry I have been away from blogging for a while.  Things have been busy at work and I did not feel inspired to get out there with my camera.  Last weekend I decided I needed to take some photos before my eye got too rusty.  I headed to Hoboken Terminal.  It had recently been re-opened after the damage from Hurricane Sandy.  I found inspiration in the this grand old train station.  there are not a whole lot of places like this left.  Thanks for stopping by and not giving up that I had put the camera down for good.
