Venice - ReImagined

Good friends of mine are back from a great trip to Italy.  Their excitement reminded me of our trip to Venice this past fall and I found myself reviewing the photos I took.  These are some that I did not edit in the first go around.  I found with some time that I liked them as much as my earlier favorites.  Venice is one of the best cities in the world to travel to with a camera.

Butterflies in my yard

I may never get rich taking the photos I want to, but it sure does make me happy.  Maybe that is the key to everything....

Hot Air Balloons Over Orange County, NY

I saw these balloons around 6am while I was on my way to play golf and decided to pull over and see if I could get any good shots.  I will say that backlighting combined with moving subjects (even relatively slow ones) and ever changing light made for tricky conditions to shoot in, but i got some cool photos and am glad I stop the car and took my camera out.... Now if I had only played golf well.

Diana at the hunt - Skylands

I have always liked this statue at Skylands tucked away near the edge of the woods.  There are a series of other statues there I am planning to photograph in IR when the light is just right.

Butterflies and Cone Flowers - Skylands

A beautiful late afternoon in Skylands.  I wandered through the wildflower garden photographing the butterflies as they moved among the cone flowers.  My favorite thing about Skylands is that every time I go there I find something different to photograph.

What a week

Busy week here in NY.  I had no chance to shoot anything at all.... I will be heading out to Skylands this evening to check out the wildflower garden.  If I get anything good I will post tonight.

Corbett's Glen - A hidden gem in suburban Rochester

I have to give a big shout-out to my Mother-in-Law Mary Lou and our friend Eleanor for pointing me to Corbett's Glen.  I was visiting Rochester this weekend and Mom said "Hey you should photograph this place Eleanor just painted..."  I had never heard of Corbett's Glen before and it sounded good.  Well this little gem was better than just good it is great!  Tucked away near the border of the suburban towns of Brighton and Penfield, Corbett's Glen is a great little park with a small glen and three beautiful waterfalls.  I headed out early Saturday morning.  The location was just wonderful in the early morning light and when the sun rose just above the tree line and lit up the glen the green gold reflections of the trees were a sight to behold.  I plan to make this little spot a regular haunt during my visits upstate.  I always love the locations that are unexpected finds.  This one is a real winner.

Ringwood Manor

My friend mike and I headed out to Skylands on July 4th to shoot some macro stuff, but found a line of cars a half mile long waiting to get to the Lake at 7am. So we headed instead to ringwood manor and found some nice subjects to photograph.  Lesson of the day always have a plan 'B'.  It was not what we had planned, but got some cool stuff here and found amazing light at Tiorati Brook (see previous post).

Tiorati Brook - Harriman State Park

My friend Mike and i headed to Tiorati Brook this morning after our first location choice was unavailable to us.  Thank God we could not get to our first choice.  Driving over we noted the rain yesterday and were hopeful the brook would be running nicely it is rare to get a full stream of water, lush summer greens and soft overcast light.  When we got to the brook I felt I had entered Middle Earth and would not have been surprised at all to see a hobbit.  It was a perfect setting and I could have stayed there all day.

Community Photo Challenge - Fireworks

This is my submission for Community Photo Challenge - Fireworks.  I had a bunch to choose from (see my previous post).  What I liked best about this one was the kid pointing up at the fireworks as they went off.  I had some others with boats in the foreground, but this one just felt like summer to me.

4th of July Fireworks

My theme for this weekend of Americana continued with fireworks along the Hudson River in Haverstraw, NY.  These fireworks brought back memories of fireworks shows when I was a kid in Washingtonville, NY.  I got a real kick out how much the young kids just loved the fireworks and could have watched them all night.
