London - Day 1

We arrived early Friday morning on an overnight flight.  Wendy and our friend Laura  and I checked in, got some coffee and started our adventure... Most of the day was spent walking down by the Thames and the West end.  We had a couple of great meals.... Sandwiches at the Sherlock Holmes pub near Traflgar and an amazing Italian dinner.  Put in about 8 hours of walking and went out to take some night photos for a few hours.  It is near freezing here, but we had a great first day.  Looking forward to museum and theater today and more photos.  London is a great city to wander and explore.  I will start posting some photos next week.

Update

I have gathered some of my favorite black and white images.  Both from film and digital and will be sending them off to Digital Silver Imaging for traditional fiber based silver halide prints that will be hand toned.  I can't wait to see them.  These will be test images for my July solo show.  I am also prepping for a trip to London. I will be shooting both film and digital and am trying to narrow down what gear to bring.  I have never been to London and love exploring new cities without too much planning.  I will share some of the results with you when I have a chance.

St Catherine of Bologna Art Show - Ringwood, NJ

This weekend was the 14th annual St Catherine of Bolgna art show in Ringwood, New Jersey.  This is my fourth year of entering photos in this great local show.  There were over 830 pieces entered in this year's show.  Each year I am amazed at the work that goes in to putting on a show of this size and the talent of the local artists who enter their photos, paintings, sculpture and poetry.  I was honored and humbled to win some awards this year again.  I would like to thank the judges and the wonderful folks who make this show such a big hit each and every year.

No Drawing Today...

Hi

I did not get home until 10pm and just could not figure out what to work on.  I will do a drawing tonight.  I am too inspired these days not to.
On a different note if you are local to the New York - New Jersey area this weekend is one of my favorite events of the year.  The art show at St Catherine of Bologna in Ringwood, NJ.  One weekend every March this church in tiny Ringwood, NJ gets converted into a SOHO gallery.  This year there will be over 830 pieces in the show including three of my photos.  I love to wander this show and see the work of all the talented local artists and am thankful to be part of a community that cares about art.  If you have the chance stop by the show you will not be disappointed.  I will only get a chance to stop by briefly on Friday night this year.  Normally I get a whole gang of family and friends and we spend Saturday afternoon wandering up and down the aisles.
Next up for us is a trip to visit family in Florida and then we are going to London for a short trip.  I have never been there and am looking forward to wandering with my cameras.

Another tinted paper drawing

Here is another paper on gray tinted paper of a pear.  I love the roundness I can achieve working in this style.  My next drawing will be something from Venice.  I can't wait to start.

Calla Lilies - Graphite and Chalk on Tinted Paper

My latest drawing on tinted paper.  I love how these calla lilies came out.  They are one of my favorite flowers.  Tinted paper really has sparked my interest in drawing again.  I am looking at drawing in a whole new way.

Old Roadster - Graphite and Chalk on Tinted Paper

I have always admired drawing on tinted paper using dark pencil and chalk.  It is much like how you would start an oil painting with a neutral ground.  I tried my hand at it for the first time tonight.  I chose to draw an old roadster I saw last year.  I am thrilled with the outcome.  I can't wait ti start another one.
It is a creative weekend for me as i also printed and framed the prints for this years Art Show in Ringwood.  It is one of my favorite events of the year.  i find it amazing that a small church in New Jersey can pull off such a great show with so many awesome artworks to see.
