Waterfalling Part Three - the Black & Whites

I picked three images from both Watkins Glen and Buttermilk Falls to do as black and whites with a nice warm tone.  I am at a loss for which I like better.  The color shots are quite nice, but I think there is something very special about how they look in B&W.

What do you think?  Color or B&W?

I love the second one down in black and white because of the contrasts of texture. I really get the feel of the foreground rocks contrasted with the water.

I can't make up my mind with the others. For me I am almost overwhelmed by texture with the black and whites, and there is something lost for me, when I do not see the contrasts and effects of green on the side walls of rock.Contrast? I'm not a photographer, so I am having trouble articulating what it is.

I like the others in black and white, but not the way I love them in color. It will be interesting to see what others think.

Hi Jeannette - I totally get what you are saying. They are quite different from the color. The comment of being overwhelmed by detail also make sense. don't mind it because in my mind I see them as big prints where the detail would feel right. Thanks for taking the time and and letting me know how they worked for you.

The last but one had me drooling. The lovely blacks!

Hi Dave - yeah. I feel myself being pulled into that last one. I hope to get out for a little bit this weekend with my camera, but there is a lot on my plate, so we shall see.

The size of the print would make all the difference in the effect, yes. Fun to actually think about why I have certain responses to pictures.

Hi Jeannette - it is something to take into account when planning prints etc. Something that looks grand at 30x40 inches may be confusing or too cramped with information as an 8x10.
