When the distraction of color was removed from this photo I shot earlier in the spring at Skylands I found wonderful design element and a much stronger image.
During my youth I applied (unsuccessfully) for Bath Academy. For the test piece I had to paint a sliced cabbage. I didn't like it, so I painted it again in monochrome. Much better - only apparently they didn't think so! Your image reminded me of it. Very powerful. (Yours, n ot mine.)
Dave - I am quite sure if they could have seen what a great artist you would be come you would have been the first one admitted. I remember my first school did not make me happy. I must have done it three times.
Flowers and leaves in black and white are one of my favorite things. You really don't see the form and lines of them with all the color. Beautiful, Carl.
victoria you are so right. The form and lines get lost in color shots. When I shoot them for color it is always about the play of foreground and background colors.
