Fresh Paint Gallery - Cape Cod

I cannot believe it has been a whole week since I last blogged.  Time is just running away from me.  I made a quick trip up to Cape Cod yesterday to hang images at Fresh paint Gallery.  I am very happy to be back in my home gallery on the Cape and am looking forward to a busy season and all the artists at Fresh Paint having a tremendous year.  I now have a nice mix of things going on.  Besides the Fresh paint I am also at Flywheel Gallery in Piermont, NY and will be in the St Catherine of Bologna show in Ringwood NJ in March.  Also on the books are two solo shows for this year.  I am off to the races in 2012!

Cape Cod Photos - 2011

This series shows some of the wonderful sunrises and sunsets we were treated to once Hurricane Irene passed the cape on her trek northward.  By Monday we had beautiful skies and temperatures and it stayed that way all week.

Quick Sketch - Nobska Light - Cape Cod

This is a quick compositional sketch that led to the painting I posted on 8/30.  I like them both for different reasons.  Tomorrow I will post another watercolor I have been working on from our Cape Cod trip last week.  I also will have some amazing photos to share with you all.

Lobstah!!!!

The noble and versatile Lobstah.... King of crustaceans!  It can be dinner or entertainment....

Last night was our big Lobstah pot dinner at the house.  Everyone does a part of the dinner and we gather together to share in a big fun filled meal together.  It is the highlight of a week full of highlights every year.  One more day and then we head back home and to our regular workaday lives.  I caught the watercolor bug again while I was here and hope to keep painting again when we get home.

Perfect way to start the day.

One of my favorite things to do on the cape is to get up early and joy the sunrise on the bay.  This shot is of Sesuit Harbor near the house we stay at.  With its wide expanse of sky and water Cape Cod bay is one of the best places for sunsets and sunrises.  Today I have no firm plans so will head out with my camera for a wander.  I have been painting here a bit as well wich feels great.  I have to remember to make time in my life at home for my watercolors.

Sunset - Duxbury Ma

Our Cape Cod trip is still a week away..... but my mind is all ready in the Bay State!  Here is an older shot from a trip to Duxbury Beach with our friends Eileen and Mark.

our annual pilgrimage to cape Cod is my favorite week of the year... great friends, great food, fun, conversation, art and relaxation.  The only thing to make it perfect would be an additional week there!

Count down T-Minus 6 days and counting!  Getting paints and cameras all packed up today.... Funny Wenderina has her clothes packed.  I am working on packing my art supplies.... We must really need this vacation.

Cape Cod - A Preview

We leave for our annual end of summer trip to Cape Cod (10 years in a row and counting) in a few weeks.  To get myself ready and try to figure out what I wanted to photograph on this years trip I looked at last summers images.  They did the trick and got me all set to be on the Cape.  I can't wait.  Not sure what my focus will be this year... in the meantime I will just enjoy last years photos and count the days.

Peaceful Cape Cod Morning

All this cold this week has me wishing for the warmth of Cape Cod in August! Peaceful cool mornings on the beach and the best sunsets in the world. The days in between are lazy and idyllic...... My kind of place!

Highland Light at sun up.

Highland Lighthouse at sunrise.

This is a closeup of the tower against the sunrise sky. It is not the first angle I would have chosen, but it was the only way to get the shot and not include the chainlink fence that is close to the building. Oh well art is supposed to be a challenge right?

Higgins Farm Windmill - Watercolor

here is the finished version of the old Higgin's Farm Windmill in Brewster Ma. I am really happy with how this turned out. I may play a little more with shading on the house and shingles, but maybe not.

Second Wash - Higgins Farm Windmill

I added the shadow side of the windmill and buildings and washed in some of the foreground. The painting is starting to take shape!

First Wash - Higgins Farm Windmill

Drawing complete and first wash of Sky and a warm foreground color done. Sky needs a little more pulled out and shaped on left, but is otherwise mostly done. Foreground wash was loose with some white poking thru.

Next installment on Sunday.

Subject of next painting

This scene of a windmill and old blacksmith shop located in Drummer Boy park in Brewster Ma. will be my next painting. I think this composition is more interesting than the windmill straight on and there is wonderful morning light falling on the grass and buildings.

I will start it tonight and you'll see a post with the first washes on Sunday. It will be on 300lb Arches cold press paper and painted in American Journey watercolors.

Nobska Lighthouse - Infra Red

I don't do many Color IRs... But I loved the way this one turned out. The fisheye lens and the strange colors make it look like a Lighthouse on some fantasy planet!
