This is the under painting for the Cape Cod goldenrod painting. I picked reds and golds and covered the whole canvas. I really love the glow it has at this point. Next I will draw the shapes for the major colors... the darks in the back and the green and red leaves and then start to put them in. I'll post more this weekend.
Gorgeous yellow reminds me of the words of the artist who loved yellow.
And here I quote Drusilla Modkeska in 'Stravinsky's Lunch', her biography of two women artists, Stella Bowen and Grace Cossington Smith: 'Cadmium yellow, spectrum yellow, aureolin, Indian yellow, lemon. The sun is God, Turner said at the end of his life.'
Thanks PC. The combination and the mixing worked well. I also primed the canvas with metalic gold paint first which helps too. I like this so much as is I am having a hard time moving on to next parts... but I will this weekend.
I really like the combination of colors you've chosen here--and it definitely does "glow".
