I used Snapseed effects app from my IPad on this photo from the other night of Brooklyn Bridge.  Pretty amazing what the new apps can do.

Brooklyn Bridge

I have been planning an excursion to lower Manhattan to photograph the Brooklyn Bridge at night for a while now, but have not had all of the details line up until last night.  I have been researching exactly where and when to position myself to get the shots for almost a year.  I got there at the perfect time just after sunset on a cloudy night.  The clouds mixed with the ambient light from the city gave it these wonderful colors.

Wandering around the empty South Street Seaport I found some other interesting things to photograph that I will post this week.

Also I am way behind on my sketch a day project, but will try to catch up.

February Sketch a Day Challenge

2/1 Pear Sketch done on brushes app on iPad.

I am taking part in a Facebook challenge to sketch something every day for the 28 days in February.  I will use pencils, Pens, watercolor and the brushes app on my iPad.  There will be no theme.  I plan to just work out my sketching muscles daily.  I will post them here for you to see and I will give you any thoughts I have or technical details I can about the sketches.  Have a great month.

Pete Seeger - January 19th 2013

 Pete Picks a tune with Jim Scott.

I was fortunate enough to see Pete Seeger in concert again.  This time he performed with Jim Scott and also the Walkabout Clearwater Chorus at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Rock Tavern, NY.  Pete is just amazing.  At 93 years of age he carries his own equipment, plays and tells the most amazing stories.  I can think of no better way to celebrate the legacy of Dr King than to sing 'We Shall Overcome' with Pete Seeger and a 150 other folks on a cold night in January, in Upstate New York.  It was an amazing experience.  Pete is still an activist as well.  Some things will never change I guess.  The note above is something Mr Seeger sent to NY Governor Andrew Cuomo to weigh in on the fracking debate.  The man is a national treasure.  If you agree with his politics or not you have to admit he has stood up for what he believed his entire life.  I hope to be able to see Pete in concert for many more years to come.

A Foggy Sunday Morning

last Sunday Morning I woke to one of my favorite things to photograph... Fog after snow.  So I headed to the falls at Minisceongo Creek and got these photos.  The conditions were changing fast.  I love these they are so moody and thoughtful.

F-Style Mandolin

Here is the another mandolin for the series of shots I have taken.  This is an F-Style Loar Mandolin.  They are such beautiful instruments.  The last one that will get photographed my Mom gave to me and was my Grandfathers.  It needs a little cleanup work first though.  These have been fun to photograph and I am having even more fun learning to play the mandolin!

Another Mandolin

This one is my Ovation mandolin.  it was feeling left out.  It has more of a guitar shaped body than the traditional mandolin, but for learning on it is much easier for me.

2013

I took these photos of my mandolin yesterday.  It is an Epiphone A type Mandolin.  I have picked it up again recently after it hanging on the wall for a while.  It is part of my plan (although one of my plans is to be less of a control freak and have less plans) for 2013.  I am re-aligning some priorities.  My family and my art still come first and are a whole tier above anything else, but some of the things I have been spending time on that have not yielded any of the results I hoped for will fall down the list or off of it all together.  One of the things I am pursuing in 2013 is to stop messing around with my mandolin and really learn how to play folk tunes and bluegrass on it.
